Angus is one of our older donkeys at The Polesworth Donkey Sanctuary. He is a male donkey, known as a jack. He really loves to eat carrots for a snack and to bathe in the sun.
Angus likes to be pampered especially when he has his feet trimmed, but he doesn’t like the dark or being separated from his friends.
Patch is our oldest donkey at 13 years old, which is still considered fairly young. Donkeys can live up to the age of 40 and beyond with the average life expectancy of 30 years.
Patch really enjoys being loved and the back of his ears being rubbed. He especially loves breakfast time and enjoys the specialised oats and all the other goodness that is packed into our animal feeds!
He doesn’t like the rain or puddles on the ground and avoids them when he can!
Darcy is our youngest donkey at just 2 years old, and is a female donkey, also known as a jenny or a jennet.
Darcy is just like any typical 2 year old and doesn’t like to do as she is told! She likes to explore and takes any opportunity given to try to escape the field or stable paddock.
Darcy likes having her coat brushed, especially when she also has her favourite snack ... hay!
Shadow is one of our younger donkeys at 6 years old. She loves a fuss being made of her as much as she loves being in the field and having a run around.
Shadow doesn’t like the cold weather or the rain, but aboslutely loves her food - so much so that when all hers is gone, she helps herself to her friends' food!
Fred is 11 years old. He loves to lounge around and take a nap.
He doesn’t like noisy vehicles or loud noises.
He does like to burn off some energy by running around in the field with his friends.
Fred also loves to snack throughout the day on yummy fruit ad veg!
Rocky is our 9 year old male donkey. He loves rolling around in the mud and the paddock which makes a mess of his coat. He must really like being brushed!
Rocky likes going into the field and walking around.
One thing Rocky doesn’t like is getting his feet trimmed, but this is an essential requirement which keeps our animals healthy and strong!
